Senator Charles Schumer referring to someone else as “wacky”?   Why does that call to mind the proverb about the pot and the kettle?

The Congressional Budget Office scored the cost of the Health Car Reform package being considered in the Senate, and left out future “savings” from the result of “preventative care” and “efficiencies in the system.”   So Schumer calls the CBO numbers “a little wacky.

Really, an analysis that includes the costs that are certain to occur and ignores the “future savings” that are unlikely to occur, is “wacky”?   If “preventative care” lowered health care costs, we wouldn’t be having any problem with rising costs now.   “Preventative care” already exists in most heal care plans, and it hasn’t helped with costs.   Schumer thinks it will work just because it’s the Federal Government doing it?   And he calls the CBO wacky?

Schumer also said that he was working on a way to prevent insurers from passing the $100 Billion in fees he’s proposed on insurers from being passed on to consumers.

Here’s a quick reality check for Mr. Schumer.   The 7 largest health insurance providers had roughly $62 Billion in Revenue last year, and net income (profits) of $2.4 Billion.   Schumer wants to impose $100 Billion in fees on companies that made $2.4 Billion in profits last year, and expects them not to pass on the higher costs?   To quote Schumer: “That’s Wacky!”

The rationale Schumer gives: the Insurance companies stand to gain from an influx of new policy holders.

Uh huh.

The population of the U.S is roughly 300 Million.   Depending on who’s statistic you use, the uninsured range from 40-50 Million.   That number includes all the illegal aliens in this country.   They won’t be signing up for health care.  Then there are the people that just won’t be able to afford purchasing a health insurance.   They won’t be signing up for private insurance.

That covers the vast majority of the uninsured.

Vast influx of new private policy holders?

 Now that’s wacky.
